We have finally reached Election Day 2023! I thought it’d never get here. And I didn’t even attend any campaign events for any of the candidates. But I do have my favorites, and those are the ones on the Stace Slate. You can vote at any of the voting centers around the county from 7am to 7pm, today, 11/7/2023. County Clerk and Election Chief Teneshia Hudspeth sent out an extensive e-mail with tips and how-to’s for today.

If you live in District I, please vote for my friend Joaquin Martinez. In District H, vote for Mario Castillo. And in District B, Tarsha Jackson has earned another term at city hall.
I am still struggling with not having voted for Gallegos for Mayor. Talk about a “qualified Hispanic,” the kind the Tu Voz! PAC’s non-committal mailers were attempting to instruct us to support. But as I see insider Latinos flock to someone supported by election deniers and attackers of our County Judge Lina Hidalgo, even they couldn’t follow Tu Voz’s advice. So, I chose to try to save City Hall from that crowd and vote Sheila Jackson Lee for Mayor. You should do the same.
I was visiting a car dealership this weekend and the finance guy was a Mexican American Denver Harbor original, probably in his 30s, who told me he had never voted. Ever! Using the usual excuses, such as “elections are rigged” and “they never do anything for us” he just left me saddened. All I could tell him was that I get it and after being involved in the thick of politics I was pretty tired of the bullshit, too. But I reminded him that he’s a taxpayer and a father of school kids whose responsibility goes beyond just putting food on the table under a good roof, such as ensuring that awful people, like election deniers and people who attack our own, and people who want to put DPS on the streets to arrest brown folks should be kept out of office. Also told him that he, more than most, has much at stake. I hope he listened.
Go Vote!
